It moves

4 days have past. What happened? Did we take a break? Well the deadline certainly doesn’t leave us a lot of time to waste.

The 3D printer has definitely worked the most. Day and night it slowly created the ABS plastic chassis. The electric current bill will surely show that… Well I’m sure Andrei’s parents won’t mind. Even though the printer did a lot of work, the chassis still had to be assembled: around 100 screws and nuts later our first floor was ready.

While Andrei and Victor assembled the chassis, Maria, Teon and Vlad had to make the motors work. They had to solder the cables to the motors at least two times for each one… For four motors, two cables each… Repeating work over and over wasn’t fun. Luckily, Teon brought a set of more resistant wires and from than on, we didn’t have any other problems with transmitting current to the motors. We know the motors worked, but we still have to figure out how to programme them. Maria, Teon and Vlad gladly took up the challenge and they figured it out. Whilst they were figuring the motors out Ioana was making progress with the Arduino and Raspberry Pi and the sensors.

So now we tehnically could make the rover move. Or at least a part of it. After a few small adjusments to the chassis we mounted the motors to its underside and we attached the wheels. We closed our eyes and let Andrei do the honours. He connected the cables to the battey. It worked! We were all amazed. The sense o accomplishment was incredible but we have to concentrate on what we still have to do. There’s a lot that has to be done.
